ABOUT US

The DOEN Foundation strives for a green, socially inclusive and creative society. We use contributions from the Dutch Charity Lotteries to support hundreds of pioneers who show–simply by doing- that things can be different. They operate at the forefront, break through old structures, create new perspectives and are a source of inspiration for others. DOEN’s role is to support these initiatives in the very first phase and give them a flying start to make a change.

OUR MAIN INNOVATION GOALS

DOEN seeks to accelerate the transition to a sustainable food environment. To speed this up we have focussed on of our programs on innovative pioneers working towards a fair and sustainable food system. In the Netherlands and Eastern Africa, we support start-ups and those that facilitate them. We work together to achieve impact, financial profit is a precondition, not an end in itself.

SPECIFIC INNOVATION NEEDS

We provide funding to frontrunners and pioneers within green protein transition, local food system, food loss and waste, regenerative agriculture, circular food systems, innovation in business and organizational models.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER STARTUPS, SCALE-UPS & SME'S

Annually, the DOEN Foundation makes over 250 pioneers bigger, stronger and more visible.

• We make them bigger by subsidizing where necessary and providing loans, where possible. Or we accelerate transitions with convertible notes and equity investments with DOEN Participaties, the biggest impact investor for sustainable and socially inclusive start-ups in the Netherlands
• We make them stronger by supporting organisations that are working to accelerate transitions by strengthening their sectors. For example, we partnered with Impact Hub Amsterdam to host the ‘Impact the Food Chain Accelerator’ program. Over the course of 13 training days, 10 innovative start-ups and SMEs who aim to make the food chain more sustainable, made their enterprise ready for investment, growth and impact.
• We make them more visible by highlighting their work whenever and wherever we can. For example by bringing them to the attention of millions of people on one of the Dutch Charity Lotteries TV shows or showcase them to the 3 millions players of het Postcode Lottery who regularly see DOEN partner’s in the Lottery’s mailings.

In 2020 we have funded over 15 food initiatives from reNature, who offer new models for regenerative farming, to Stichting Verspilling is Verrukkelijk, a cooperation of impact entrepreneurs with solutions for food waste. See this link for an overview of the food partners that we have supported.
