A Brave New Startup: Probitat
Probitat is a passionate food technology company that creates Healthy bacterial solution to increase nutrition value of plant-based products. They want to educate consumers about the importance of gut health, nutrition and the severe nutritional consequences of micronutrient deficiencies.
What is your product/service?
Plant-based food products that are healthier, tastier and more sustainable by using fermentation
What problem do you want to solve with your company?
We want to make foods healthier by going more natural and lowering over-processing. We believe plant-based raw ingredients have all the nutrients we need to develop food options that are healthier. However, food ingredients have been for years over-processed in order to solve mostly technological disadvantages. For example, we have been refining grain flours for years, where the most nutritious part of the grain is left out. But we are then fortifying those flour with synthetic vitamins and minerals. Or we keep processing and isolating proteins, fats, and fibers (which require a lot of energy, produce unnecessary GHG emissions and use a lot of water) and we add them together again when doing product development. Probitat wants to show that we can use fermentation technology to avoid these type of unnecessary processing steps and obtain food products that are healthier, tastier and more sustainable.
What is your biggest challenge, and what are you looking for to conquer it?
We are experts in fermentation technology and we have been developing highly nutritious, healthy and tasty plant-based food products, which we want to commercialize by partnering with food companies with already strong brands. Our biggest challenge is to find partners that support our vision on how we believe the food system should be changed. Moreover, we are a small startup with a lot of potential but limited resources. We need to find investment to grow the team, to build our fermented ingredients production facilities and partners to get visibility and trust, and help us move to the growth phase.
