A Brave New Startup: Yeap

Yeap produces sustainable and upcycled yeast-based protein (both functional and bulk) made out of spent yeast.

What stage are you in?

In terms of fundraising, we are at a seed stage. Product wise, we already have the capability to produce hundreds of kilos per year of our protein powder. We started pilots with potential customers, and one advanced to a product development agreement.

What problem do you want to solve with your company?

With its proprietary method for upcycling yeast waste which would otherwise be thrown away, Yeap tackles multiple global challenges: supply chain issues, environmental degradation, and food security as the world's burgeoning population consumes greater amounts of animal protein per capita. With a game-changing protein content of more than 70 percent, Yeap's scalable, cost effective powder sustainably addresses global nutritional needs while contributing to the circular economy. Rather than producing waste, we reduce waste. It's a revolutionary food system which not only sustains humanity, but also the planet.

What is your biggest challenge, and what are you looking for to conquer it?

Our biggest challenge at the moment is to convert pilots into customers. We already started the process, with one pilot converted to a customer, and will soon launch additional pilots. Thanks to our pilot collaborations, we are learning more about our customers’ needs, teaching them what we know about our protein, and together developing new upcycled products to bring to market.
